NIGERIA. Iree: the Health Center

Geographic situation.

Iree, a town of 140.000 inhabitants, is located in a rural zone, in the State of Osun in South-East Nigeria. The Health Center has operated since 2009.Today the staff of this Center desire to promote the ophthalmological well-being of a population that needs to understand the importance of good vision among everyone: adults, youth and children.

Project Objective: Assure primary and secondary ocular care

Needs:

Help the people, especially the most vulnerable and the most deprived to become self-sufficient thanks to an appropriate education.
Screen for visual illnesses.
Provide preventive and curative care to women and children who have the disease.
Assure a presence in the villages to permit access for persons who do not have transportation.
Direct the sick who need surgery to a specialized center.

Means: - Instruments with which to test the field of vision and to study the back of the eye, tonometre, retinoscope, ophthalmoscope, a tool to correct refraction errors. - Frames for glasses

*Local contribution: A family has put its house at the disposal of the sisters to assure the necessary care until the clinic is built. The patients pay for the care they are provided with.
