Open to the needs of the mission throughout the years

 From the beginning, the DHS devoted themselves to serve :
|

  |  the poor in the rural areas
|

  |  the children in ''charitable schools'', in numerous local state-schools and in day nurseries
|

  |  the needy in ''charitable bureaus'' and workshops.
| In the course of its history, like other religious orders, the congregation went through many trials :
1789 : the turmoil of the French Revolution dispersed the 75 DHS. While dispersed, they remained faithful to the charism : “ to love and serve Jesus Christ in the person of the poor”. As soon as the storm subsided, most communities were reconstituted and others opened all over Brittany.
In the 19th century : they adapted themselves to the new forms of poverty. When epidemics broke out - and they were frequent in the 19th century - the sisters, called upon by the Prefects, responded with unlimited availability.

 1901-1905 : dispersion throughout the world : Belgium, Holland, Great Britain, the United States . This confrontation with different cultures led them to modify the way they lived out their service of God and of the poor.

 1936 : In 1936 they dared an insertion in Manchuria from where they were expelled in 1951. Then in 1954, they set off for Africa...
