“ There is no explanation... ”

« Unpredictable Breath, Spirit of God ”. It was indeed an unpredictable breath that breathed upon the community of La Roche Derrien (France) last Tuesday 15th of April. We were preparing ourselves to welcome a small group of young people ( 5-6 ) who were making the “Tro Breiz”: “Tour of Brittany” (pilgrimage in (...) (More...)

A big welcome to Margaret Abbott

« Let us Open up Pathways of Hope... »

The elections are over: the results have been sent, by post, to the sisters of the Congregation. “Nothing can stop the living water which dashes down from the heights and carves its bed along its course. The wind from the sea still murmurs in the wheat, tosses the boats and calls us to look beyond ourselves. As in the past, we must lift our eyes Towards the splendour of (...) (More...)

Let us live as closely as possible to the BREATH

Enlivened by the Spirit of Pentecost, we believe that this same spirit is at work in the world, in the Church … and in us. We want to be attentive to the “new thing” that the Spirit is doing, to listen to His/Her desire. Deep within us we believe: that the unpredictable spirit, who has led us at every stage during the last 300 years, is still at work in our DHS family (More...)

Joy of announcing…

We have the joy of announcing the name of our new superior general elected this morning, April 11, in Chpater: Sr. Agnes Stephan, the one who has directed the Congregation since 2002. Live the unfolding of the election process

This stage is being lived through a process of discernment for all the capitulants continuing from this Wednesday afternoon all through Thursday. On Friday the capitulants will elect the Superior General. It is good for us to mention once again the meaning of this service of authority which we are going to entrust to her for the next six years; it will be shared with a Council which will be (...) We continue our journey together

There is no better way of describing what we are experiencing together between the generations than to refer to our Rule of life? Article 51: “Those who are beginning their life in the Congregation bring to it their dynamism and their sensitivity to the calls of the Spirit in the context of the world of to-day. Those who have already travelled along the way (...) (More...)

Living the joy of being sisters together

These photos would like to bring you an echo of the joyful sound that echoes among us here in Chapter. It is the echo of laughter, singing in all our different languages -French, English, Spanish- as well as the original languages of several sisters among us: Yoruba, Igbele, Mafa, Moundang… It is the joy of meetings where language has hints of other languages. It is the joyful (...) (More...)

Begin research

In 6 « international » workshops, the Chapter members are working to study important questions facing the Congregation today. 1) Apostolic Religious in the D.H.S. Family While remaining a congregation, we belong, from now on to an international Family. What is our identity, our place and our contribution within this D.H.S.Family? 2) International (...) Looking back over 6 years...

The face of our Congregation is changing... The Moral Report presented by Sr Agnes Stephan, our Superior General, even speaks of a rapid transformation: on the demographic level, on a growing internationality -13 young African sisters and two Chilean sisters are participating in the Chapter- and that leads us to ask: Where are we going together? What future do we (...) (More...)

From one marketplace to another

“We cannot stop the movement towards globalisation. Are we going to look on as spectators or are we going to commit ourselves to a more humane globalisation, one in which there will be more solidarity? Are we going to work with those who are trying to fight for the Community that is the Earth? ” General Chapter 2002 In this first stage of our Chapter, we (...) (More...)

Becoming a « Chapter Community »

We have come here from thirteen countries. To open ourselves together to another culture -that of India- is the first step we are taking in the Chapter. Thanks to a magnificent Indian rite -rich in colours and smells and tastes- led by a dancer, we were invited through symbols to come to that true level where life can be listened to and engendered in a new way, that of (...) Easter : “ Let’s rise up …”

On Easter morning, when it was still dark, the women went to the tomb. The love that was burning in their hearts urged them to hasten and perform a funeral rite for their friend. Then they heard the voice of God’s messenger say to them : “You are looking for Jesus who was Crucified ? He is not here, He is risen !” (More...)

Responsible citizens

The municipal elections: an exciting subject! For so many weeks we heard about them on the radio, TV, newspapers and…in the retirement houses of Ker-Anna and Sainte Marie -Sainte Anne d'Auray, France-. In early January a candidate asked to come speak to the residents. The director of the houses, concerned to keep information impartial and to assure each citizen's right to information gave (...) From one church to another

There the church bells rang out, here the smoke of incense arose, a candle was burned, sometimes a voice echoed: "Lord, open my lips, - and my mouth will declare your praise!" Thus from one church to another in "La Baie" -a region of Saint-Brieuc, France-, 40 to 50 persons gathered each Wednesday of Lent at 6 PM. Yffiniac, Trégeux, (...) (More...)

" The Lord God has opened my ear "

Those of us who have been called to serve the Lord today have the advantage of the teachings, the experiences and the counsel of the first disciples. To be conscious of the Lord, we have received all we need to speak as his disciple -Isaiah 50, 4-7-, which presumes a profound intimacy with Him and allowing ourselves to be led by Him. And here is where the difficulty sometimes lies. (...) (More...)

To live forever !

The act of wanting to live very deeply rooted is very strong in us. We struggle, we fight, we do all we can to protect our life, to live better, longer. Where does this come from? God himself placed this desire in us, when he created us. He breathed in us the breath of life.(Gen 2:7) The prophet Ezekiel reminds us of this in today's1st reading, “I shall put my spirit (More...)

Human beings are not for sale

Twenty DHS or so of the Paris area and surroundings gathered in our house, rue Chaplain, for a day of study and reflection on the trafficking in women and children throughout the world. Mrs Claire Quidet, a member of the International Organisation Mouvement du Nid, informed us and sensitised us to a reality which is spreading to every continent. Her objective : to make us aware of such an (...) (More...)
