970 sisters, 116 communities. (April 2008)
Following the orientation of the 2002 General Chapter which invited us to“serve life”, the province has chosen “to enter into a foundational approach to open up and keep alive the charism of the DHS”. The demographic evolution of our Province made us face the alternative of tolerating our ageing or reacting by rekindling the missionary inspiration, by listening to the Spirit. Areas given an impulse by this research : - Redefinition of community missions, the outcome of a long process for everyone which enabled to reinforce the unity between communities through the three axis common to everyone : be faith communities, ferment of relationships, seized by the mission to the end. This unity is expressed today through all the inter-community gatherings where new forms of sharing are being lived. - Evolution of structures better adapted to our situation : - Constitution of a network of communities susceptible to welcome the young in initial formation - Creation of the younger sisters’ group. - Setting up of our five Homes for the Elderly Sisters as public institutions for elderly dependent persons (EHPAD) opening up to lay people and Religious women of other congregations with a co-ordinator responsible for the Sponsoring in the name of the congregation.
The growing experience of poverty, of vulnerability of our unit (age, deaths, sickness…) has a brighter side, in that there is a greater awareness that what is expected of us is time given to listening to people who are suffering, familiarity with the Word of God and prayer.
The General Chapter of 2002 gave a strong impulse to the evolution of mentalities faced with the creation of the DHS Family. - Positive evolution with regard to the Secular Branch, -31 members- a reality that is sprouting and to which we must allow time for its growth. - The Associates -86 members- are beginning to increase. Their motivations expressed with conviction reveal to us religious the precious pearl, the treasure our charism carries and gives : a special devotion to the Holy Spirit. Their last general Assembly in June 2007 showed a group deeply rooted in the spiritual and missionary tradition of the Congregation, and at the same time evolving towards a healthy autonomy in relation to the Daughters of the Holy Sprit.
