" The Lord God has opened my ear "
Those of us who have been called to serve the Lord today have the advantage of the teachings, the experiences and the counsel of the first disciples. To be conscious of the Lord, we have received all we need to speak as his disciple -Isaiah 50, 4-7-, which presumes a profound intimacy with Him and allowing ourselves to be led by Him. And here is where the difficulty sometimes lies.
What can become of our mission when, “without being aware of it”, we resist his intuitions, his leading, his word ; when we do our tasks, live our commitments and responsibilities following our own way : “I think, I believe, I suppose...” It is true we need to initiate, be positive about our mission commitments, but always asking ourselves : “Am I doing what the Lord asks of me ?”.
Isaiah speaks to me in this way : "The Lord has already given me the power to speak as his disciple... Each morning He awakens me and I listen as the disciples did". This presupposes a profound intimacy between the Lord and oneself, an intimacy needed in order to follow in his path, to hear what is said to me through words, through people I meet, through the events. All that is necessary is that we be attentive to Him. Isaiah teaches us how to do this.
