Thanks to Mgr Le Mée
April 2008 … April 1858 : 150 years since the first DHS arrived at Yffigniac (near Saint Brieuc, France), and this thanks to Mgr Le Mée, a native of Yffiniac. The house where he was born is still to be seen at the entrance of the community. It was thanks to Mgr Le Mée, bishop of Saint Brieuc -then vicar general and ecclesiastical Superior of the Congregation- that the Mother House was transferred from Plérin to Saint Brieuc. The first sisters came to Yffiniac for "the education of the children, the care of the sick and the upkeep of the church". Over 150 years, seventy sisters have succeeded each other inserting themselves in the middle of the population, sharing their lives, joys and hopes but also and above all, their sufferings, sorrows and concerns.
On Sunday 27 April 2008, some thirty sisters joined the parishioners and the community to give thanks to the Lord for what had been accomplished and lived in the parish throughout those years. “ We have received so much from you, through you, the sisters said. It is a source of great joy for us. Today we rejoice at having in our midst three religious women who were born here : Sr Jeanne, from the Congregation of the Divine Providence of Crehen, and two DHS : Annick Rault and Monique Blanchard, our present Provincial”.
Commenting the Gospel of the day -To love as Christ loved and witness to the Good News-, Father Maurice Gauthier said he could picture Mgr Le Mée (1794-1858), praying before he missioned the sisters to Yffiniac, a prayer for the needs of the world around him : unschooled children, uncared-for sick people... “Who shall I send ? Prophetic the vision that foresees a better future through attentiveness to the most deprived, the discards of society “ 300 years after the foundresses’ days, the sisters are still there, ever present to the people around them : the sick, the hard of hearing, the catechumens, the prayer groups... “ They remind us that material goods are not sufficient to give a meaning to one’s life. They testify that one can be happy in a community where sharing is lived, through total dedication to the Lord : Foolishness in the eyes of the world, wisdom in the eyes of God ”
