The Province
In the Province of England, Ireland and Wales we are fifty eight Daughters of the Holy Spirit, a group of apostolic religious, on mission in these countries. We live in thirteen religious communities: two in Ireland, two in Wales and nine in England. There are also eighty four Associates, lay men and women who commit themselves to live the charism, spirituality and mission of the Sisters. There are also other Associates in formation at present. The Sisters and Associates live closely together and form the Family of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit.
Members of the Family are involved in a variety of ministries: school governance, hospital chaplains, prison visitors, care of the sick and elderly sisters, parish and diocesan work, retreat work, ecumenical and inter-faith dialogue, and work with asylums seekers. There is also a strong commitment to justice and peace issues, to ecology, to fair-trade practices, and aspects of climate-change involving our carbon footprint.
In June 2011, the Province will hold its first joint Assembly of Sisters and Associates, and preparations are in hand at present to prepare for this significant event in the life of the Congregation. The Province is also currently hosting a five- month experience of internationality in the Congregation for three DHS Sisters from the Vice Province of Nigeria. These Sisters will live the charism in a culture different from their own, and will receive ongoing formation from a number of Sisters in the Province.
In all our undertakings we work with the people among whom we live, sharing in their joys and sorrows, and seeking to restore in the world, relationships characterised by justice and fraternal love. We try to become living signs of the Eternal Sign, Christ himself, in the twenty first century, in contemporary society, which is in great need of transformation.
