We would like to return to the official opening of this “land” for 100 years by the Superior General of the Congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, Sr. Ann ALMADOVAR: she places us in an enchanting site that we can admire, “land of our ancestors, between sun and cloud, between breeze and storm, between land and sea”,<\/em><\/strong> a wonderfully maintained site and “land” made fertile by associations and warmly thanked volunteers. It also evokes its hidden beauty, all interior, that develop and flourish the many people in search of spiritual research who frequent this place.<\/p>\n On this August 23rd of the centenary celebration,<\/strong> the site is populated by the Daughters of the Holy Spirit but also by civil and religious figures: the mayor of Locquirec and his deputies, delegates from the municipality of Plestin-les-Gr\u00e8ves, the bishop of Quimper, Mgr Dognin with several priests including the future chaplain of the White Island, the vice-president of the CORREF (Conference of religious men and women of France), delegates of religious congregations invited and many guests and friends from all over the Region…<\/p>\n Comes the time to remember the past,<\/strong> where we tried, according to the expression of our Rule of Life (art 1, n\u00b0 3), “with the women and men of this time, to awaken to the question of God and to participate in the birth and growth of communities animated by the Gospel.\u201d <\/em>To discover the beginning of the White Island, we are guided by Sr. Anne-Marie Tromeur, archivist of the congregation. For several years, the congregation\u2019s leaders have been looking for a place to live for their Juvenistas who, since 1898, have lived at the Mother House in Saint-Brieuc; but various events have made this House inhospitable for these young people: the influx of sisters expelled from their schools in 1904, by the law of Combes, the reception of wounded soldiers between 1914 and 1919, and the epidemics that were rampant at the time…
Here at the end of a “novena to St Joseph,” an opportunity arises: a castle, built in 1661 \u2013 a 7-hectare property \u2013 located on the banks of the Douron *, on the edge of the departments of Finist\u00e8re and C\u00f4tes du Nord, is for sale: it belongs to an Englishman, Mr. Norton, vice-lawyer.King of the Indies. On September 26, 1926, the leaders of the congregation, informed by the direction of the Catholic education of Quimper, immediately took the case into consideration… And, on November 10, the property is bought!
From this day, 3 juvenists and 2 sisters come to stay at the castle… joined by 30 others on the following December 10!<\/p>\n
