After the beautiful day of celebrating the White Island Centennial, my mind was turned to Nigeria for the Vice-Provincial Chapter held from September 3-10, 2026.<\/strong>\u00a0 Living the time of this chapter with our sisters in Nigeria was a time of grace for me! If I hadn\u2019t gone to Nigeria, I would have failed to understand an existential truth, the key to understanding a culture… Starting from the theme of the Chapter: “Transformed by the Holy Spirit to love and serve”,<\/strong> the father animator of the Chapter addressed the question of “transformation”<\/strong> as a process that begins at our baptismal consecration and will continue throughout life. According to him, any transformation begins with the knowledge of one\u2019s true identity and requires adjustment work. According to the “Principles and Foundations” of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the true identity of the human being is to “praise, revere and serve God…” To further elucidate his point, Father Ehie OMORAGBON stated an African proverb that says: “The joy of a tree is to accomplish what God has asked it to be, not out of pride, but for the joy of the whole universe.”\u00a0 If the joy of a tree is to be fully a tree for the joy of the universe, the joy of a Christian is to be more fully a child of God, not out of pride, but to spread his joy in the universe and make the joy of his brothers and sisters. This means that every being in the world carries within him a mission which can only be accomplished by adjusting to the will of God. In the end, adjusting our little desires to the great desire of God is not easy, because the path is not pre-drawn.<\/strong> It is the fruit of a daily prayer, of a permanent spiritual conversation with the Creator… It is often a death to oneself in our personal choices for more openness and collaboration in order to embrace as widely as possible the saving project of God.<\/p>\n The Chapter ended on the evening of September 10, with a transparent and serene election of 6 delegates for the General Chapter to be held in April 2027.<\/p>\n Judith MBOUNGHOU, DHS. <\/em><\/strong>Throughout his teaching, the animator of the Chapter repeated it in other words: “A good Christian is a good altruist. Prayer connects us to the Creator and other living beings, and every prayer must open us to charity.” <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0This means that the identity of religious life begins with a good integration of baptismal faith and a life of authentic witness to charity for all.
Thus, formation in the Christian faith and the sciences of human and socio-cultural development are two essential pillars for a balanced religious life, since the vocation to consecrated life is grafted on these two basic elements.<\/p>\n
This is, moreover, what Saint-Augustine had already understood when he affirmed in the 5th century: “You made us for You, Lord, and our hearts are restless as long as they do not remain in You.” <\/em><\/strong>For us, Daughters of the Holy Spirit, the process of transformation should also take into account our fundamental values summarized in these words from Jesus: “Learn from me that I am meek and humble of heart.”<\/em><\/strong> Rule of Life Art 11.<\/p>\n\"We must abandon all our desires to God and only want what He wants, when He wants it and as He wants it\"<\/em><\/strong> says Father Louis Lallemant, SJ, in \"Spiritual Doctrine\".<\/h4>
