Assembly of the associates. Cameroon
The Associates of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit's General Assembly was held in Lara, Cameroon, on February 24th, 2018, in the presence of Sister Pauline Maïssenso, Vice-Provincial, and the Sister advisers of the different groups.
The day began with the welcoming words of Sister Catherine Mamma to all the participants who came by large numbers: 65 out of 78! She reminded us that the General Assembly is a very important and unique moment to get together, to find ourselves, to live a similar experience of fraternity and communion. It's also an opportunity to take new steps in our daily choices. She urged participants to keep coming back on the human and spiritual attitudes of our founder Marie Balavenne.
Then it was time for a very beautiful prayer animated by the Doukoula group: - The entrance song "You call us to love you" joined in chorus by all. - Reading from the gospel of the day (Mt 5, 35-48) and a commentary by Felix Ludiwang: On the one hand, Jesus is placed on a completely different ground than that of the codes of justice without which there is no law, "You have heard that it was said... Well ! I tell you... "; on the other hand, for us, always asking for the grace to love our enemies to be perfect as is the celestial father... - Reading an extract from the book of life particularly on the prayer: "Always carry in you the desire to please him and in this respect, you will always pray."
The comment of the Bishop Gilbert Damba Wana, Vicar General of the Diocese of Maroua Mokolo, summing up the theme of the year: "You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world" (Mt 5,13-16) was very enriching for the participants. What does it mean to be the salt of the earth? Salt is used for many different purposes: to give taste, to preserve food, to fertilize the soil. We must play our part to bring joy to family life, the group of associates, the communities, the church and the society in general. We must spread the good news around us. What does it mean to be the light of the world? Christ is the light: through his teachings he opened the eyes of the people so they can understand the Word of God. We are called to open our intelligence to the Word through prayer and the sacraments (Eucharist, reconciliation etc...).
After a convivial meal, our day continued: - Presentation of the members of the new bureau of the associates of Cameroon which will now be directed by Felix Ludiwang of Doukoula. -News from the other units by myself. - By Sister Catherine Mamma, "thanks" to the outgoing office and especially to Bernadette Daipa, treasurer, then to those who participated in the training and the accompaniment of groups. She sincerely paid a tribute to the Archbishop Gilbert Damba Wana, who always responded favorably to our requests. - Presentation of gifts to the members of the former office by the Vice-Provincial, closing words and handing out of candles to the new members of the bureau led by Felix Ludiwang and sending out on mission by Sister Pauline Maîssenso.
