Solidarity: England - Burkina Faso
The Sisters and Associates in the parishes of Olney and St Patrick’s, Northampton, made an appeal and held a raffle in favour of the project of the "Marie Balavenne" Hostel, a boarding house for young girls who come from distant villages in pursuit of further education in the local town, in Diébougou, Burkina Faso. For the time of their studies the students are supported and accompanied by the Sisters of the community.
A generous amount of £850 was raised to purchase mosquito nets, mattresses other equipment and for the general maintenance and refurbishment of the Hostel.
The day of the raffle took place in the parish hall of Our Lady and St Lawrence, Olney,September 1st 2019. It was a happy and memorable occasion which brought together parishioners, sisters, associates and even the Bishop of Northampton was present! Home- made cakes and other refreshments were much appreciated. Everyone agreed that this event was truly a high point in the social life of the parish which brought together so many people in a spirit of joy, friendship and generosity in response to helping the Daughters of the Holy Spirit project to support young girls of Burkina Faso.
Thank you sisters and young people of Diébougou for what you have done for us, here, for our community and parish in this little corner of England. God bless you all!
