During the "stamps workshop" at the Ker Anna-Lann Eol retirement home in Sainte Anne d'Auray, it is not uncommon to see the family of a Resident stopping to admire the large number and the variety of the stamps spread out on the tables.
" - Are you collecting stamps? - No Sir, but we are collecting and classifying them by theme then by subject; afterwards we will send them to the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa who are selling them to collectors: The money of the stamps sale is then sent to the Mali Women's center. In Bamako, this center helps the sick and street children. The capital of Mali is very poor and many children are abandoned, the parents being unable to feed them. The sale of the stamps that we have collected last year allowed us to purchase school supplies for these children, so they can look forward to a brighter future."
The residents enjoy meeting up from time to time for cutting and classifying stamps «we enjoy doing something useful together, adding to that the pleasure of sharing a great afternoon" they say and others add: "we are discovering monuments, cities, areas, paintings or we are remembering pages of French and European history..." "Look! A new stamp!"
Sainte Anne d'Auray is a French town, located in the County of Morbihan in the Southern West part of Brittany. It is famously known for our Catholic Pilgrimage in honor of Saint Anne.
