Commitment to the ‘Secular Branch’

Sylvie DANIEL committed herself to the consecrated lay life in 2021 by taking temporary vows. During this period, she continued her formation, focusing mainly on the meaning of commitment and her desire to respond to the call that the Lord had placed in her heart to give her life to Him.
Five years after her first commitment, on Saturday, 19 July 2025, at the Church of Saint Thérèse de KERYADO in LORIENT, Brittany, France, Sylvie sent out beautiful invitations to her companions in the Secular Branch of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, her family and friends to celebrate her final commitment with her.

With all the guests present, the parish priest, Father Marcel HYOMBO ATEND, was delighted to celebrate this Mass for Sylvie. Giovanna, regional moderator, presented the Secular Branch, “which originated from the religious congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, where women give their lives to the Lord through evangelical vows and spread the Gospel by committing themselves, each in her own community, to the most disadvantaged, in a spirit of great fraternity among themselves. As Pope Francis said: ‘You, consecrated lay women, are at the heart of the world with the heart of God.’

The Mass proceeded with the words of the psalm and the Gospel texts, during which Father Marcel captivated us with a homily based on the first reading -Co 12:7-28- to remind us that the Holy Spirit gives gifts to each of us: to some, the gift of prophecy, to others, the gift of tongues, and that all together form one body, which is the Body of Christ. He completed his remarks with the Gospel -John 15:12-17- whose message is to love one another. By linking these two texts, Father Marcel emphasised the importance of the commitment of Sylvie, a member of the Body of Christ who wishes to love and care for her neighbour with the heart of God.

Then came the moment when Giovanna invited Sylvie to make her commitment. Before the entire assembly and before the Lord, Sylvie recited the commitment formula with gentleness and emotion. The Eucharistic celebration continued in a solemn atmosphere. Indeed, the entire assembly was imbued with Sylvie’s gentleness and emotion.
After the final blessing, everyone burst into joy and came to congratulate Sylvie with brotherly embraces.

And we gathered around a glass of friendship to continue celebrating Sylvie and sharing with one another.
