A member of the Secular Branch of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit since its foundation in 2003, Marie Alice entered eternal life on Monday 13 November 2023.
Marie Alice was born in Plainfield, Connecticut, on 30 January 1927. She attended local primary schools and Plainfield High School. After high school, she entered the Congregation of the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and took the name Sr Marie Edmind. She devoted her professional years to teaching, parish ministry and helping with the local palliative care programme. She also spent many years caring for her elderly parents, accompanying them until their death. Marie-Alice loved people; she enjoyed meeting new people and spending quality time with them.
Marie Alice entered the Matulaitis nursing home in 2013 when her health rapidly deteriorated. There she was known for her warm laugh and high energy. In her later years, she enjoyed discussing theological issues with her contacts and visitors. She had insisted that she be allowed to participate in all available religious and secular activities.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honour at her home parish of St. John’s on Railroad Avenue in Plainfield on Wednesday 29 November at 11:00am. Interment will be in the family plot at St. John’s Cemetery on Route 12 Norwich Road in Plainfield, CT. Memorial donations may be sent to SBDHS C/O DHS Development Office PO Box 497 Putnam, CT 06260.
