KENYA. Sent in Joy

On 2nd September 2025, we, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit, in Nigeria,  arrived at Nairobi International Airport, Kenya, to begin a new chapter of mission in Eldama Ravine, within the Diocese of Nakuru. This step marks a significant moment in our congregation’s journey of living and sharing our charism across cultures and peoples.

At the airport, we were warmly welcomed by some of our sisters currently studying in Kenya. Their smiles, words of encouragement, and fraternal presence immediately made us feel at home. It was a touching expression of the bond we share as sisters, no matter where in the world we are sent.
In addition to this joyful welcome, the Diocese of Nakuru kindly sent Fr. Francis and Mr. Robert, the diocesan driver, to receive us and accompany us to he place of our new mission. Their gesture of hospitality reflected the openness and collaboration of the local Church, and we felt embraced not only as missionaries but as members of the Body of Christ.

Upon our arrival in Eldama Ravine, we were deeply moved by the kindness of the staff of Mercy Mission Hospital, led by Madam Rosemary, who had prepared our new home. With great generosity, they cleaned the house, assisted with our luggage, and ensured that we settled in comfortably. Their joyful service was a powerful sign of the Spirit at work in the hearts of the people among whom we have been sent to live and serve.
That same evening, we gathered around the Lord’s table for the celebration of the Eucharist in our new community. Fr. Francis presided over this first Mass and the blessing of the house, marking the true beginning of our mission in prayer and thanksgiving. In that sacred moment, we entrusted our presence, our apostolate, and the people of Eldama Ravine to the guidance and blessing of the Holy Spirit.

Our journey to Eldama Ravine fills us with gratitude and hope. We are aware that our mission here is not only to serve but also to listen, to learn, and to walk alongside the People of God. The Spirit calls us to be present with humility, openness, and joy, bearing witness to God’s love through our lives and ministries.
As we take our first steps in this new mission, we entrust ourselves and all those we will encounter to the care of the Holy Spirit. We pray that our presence in Kenya may be a source of mutual enrichment, deepened faith, and renewed commitment to the Gospel.

With Mary, our Mother, we echo our “yes” and step forward in confidence, trusting that the Spirit who sends us will also sustain us.
