The International Union of Superiors General
calls for a global moment of prayer for peace,
on March 6, 2026.

ROME, March 4, 2026. Faced with the escalation of violence and armed conflicts in many parts of the world, the International Union of Superiors General (IUSG) calls for prayer, fasting and action for a disarmed and disarming peace. The organization represents more than 1,900 women’s religious congregations, present on six continents.

The UISG, which brings together nearly 600,000 sisters around the world, invites to an international moment of prayer that will be held on Friday, March 6 at 3:30 PM (Rome time). The meeting will be broadcast live online and open to the faithful as well as all people of goodwill.

“As consecrated women, present at the heart of the most fragile realities and close to those who suffer, we cannot remain silent in the face of a spiral of destruction that threatens human dignity and compromises the future of new generations”, said Sr. Roxanne Schares, SSND, Executive Secretary of the UISG.

Peace, universal aspiration
“Peace is the desire of all peoples and the painful cry of those who are torn by war,” said Pope Leo XIV. “Let us ask the Lord to touch the hearts and inspire the minds of political leaders, so that they replace the violence of weapons with the search for dialogue” (Angelus, July 2025).

Through its global network, the UISG relays this call that rises from geographical and existential peripheries where the clash of weapons stifles all other voices. The sisters who live alongside refugees, the wounded and devastated families testify every day that peace is not an abstract idea, but a fundamental human need denied to millions of people.

A global call to prayer and action The UISG thus launches a global appeal for prayer, fasting and commitment to peace. The online meeting will bring together religious communities and people from different continents, united across borders, cultures and languages.

“We entrust to our God of love and mercy the victims of all conflicts and wars. We implore the courage to become peacemakers and reaffirm our commitment to walk together beyond borders with all our sisters and brothers, so that the world truly becomes a home for everyone.”

Event information. This event is open to the faithful, representatives of civil society and people of any religious tradition or goodwill.
