Burkina Faso: a new school

A primary school in Koudougou -BURKINA FASO-, after the maternal school Saint Esprit…: blessed are you, Lord! “We would no longer be Daughters of the Holy Spirit if we were not at the side of the poor, nor would we be more so if we were not attentive to the Spirit who makes us discover the face of Jesus Christ in that of our brothers.” Sister Anne Marie COULOIGNER in ‘colombe n°51.

Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Burkina Faso, the Spirit gives us to hear the cry of the poor and to be attentive to the signs and needs of this time by doing our part for the education of man and of the whole man. Thus, after the opening of the kindergarten in 2020, during the year 2024 -with the agreement of the Superior General, Sister Ann ALMODOVAR- we started the construction of the primary school. Sister Yéri Eugénie PALENFO has committed herself with zeal and enthusiasm in the administrative procedures to obtain the opening of this school. And the steps, slow and difficult, found a happy outcome…. September 15, 2025 was marked by the administrative return of teachers in all schools in Burkina Faso and, particularly, the opening of the private primary school Saint Esprit with, as titular teacher of the CP, Mr. Franck, committed lay from the parish Notre-Lady of Reconciliation. On October 1st, the day of the students’ school return, an immense joy resounded within the private primary school Saint Esprit by the voices of the students, the cries, the games, the classes and, at certain moments, in the silence and the tears of their parents’ detachment…  This is how the school opened its doors with the very first class with a total of 32 students!

How proud they can be to be the pioneers of this newly opened school!
On the 4th of October, “Laudato Si” day, the school celebrated its entrance mass followed by the blessing of the new building. The mass was animated by the voices of the students of CP 1, -like the voice of angels … – with, for celebrant, Father Fidèle Kinda, parish priest of Saint Joseph Moukassa. The students’ parents were massively present to support their children. The vice-provincial of the Congregation in Burkina Faso, Sister Silvie ROAMBA and some sisters from the vice-province took part in this opening celebration. In her remarks, the director of the school, Sister Eugénie PALENFO, expressed her gratitude to the parish priest for his availability to celebrate the Eucharist with us and to the parents for their presence. In addition, Sister Silvie ROAMBA thanked Sister Eugénie PALENFO for her total donation in all the steps, Sister Eva for her quality of work ‘as an entrepreneur’, and all the actors.

The celebration ended with the blessing of the primary school buildings. Thus, from now on the community of Koudougou lives within the Center for Awakening and Private Preschool Education and the private primary school with, as common denominator ‘École Saint Esprit de Koudougou.
We express our gratitude to the Superior General and her council for the funding of this school.
