Touloum Girls’ Training Center

The Touloum Girls’ Training Centre, created in 2000 by the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and PIME priests in the diocese of Yagoua, has been supporting young girls who are vulnerable, under-schooled or out of school for more than twenty years. In the face of discrimination, early marriages and persistent poverty in the Far Northern region, the Centre offers a three-year training course including sewing, embroidery, catering and agriculture, as well as learning about rights and duties.

Today, the majority of the students come from very poor families unable to finance their training. The Centre is, therefore, seeking support to encourage schooling, provide teaching materials and develop income-generating activities that will allow the Centre to become self-financing.

Objective:

  • Promote the training and empowerment of 62 marginalized young girls in order to strengthen their socio-economic integration.

Expected results:

  • Access to training and acquisition of professional skills.

  • Economic empowerment of young girls.

  • Improvement of their living conditions and respect for their dignity.

  • Reduction of discrimination and early marriage.

  • Contribution to the financial autonomy of the Centre.

This project aims to offer these young girls a real chance to become responsible women, actors of development in their community.

Needs for teaching materials and sewing items:

  • Teaching and sewing materials: sewing fabrics in different colors,
fabric for embroidery, spool of thread and wool, needles 765 €

  • Tuition fees 460 €

  • 12 sewing machines for female graduates 1,650 €

Total 2,875 €

Storage needs of millet, rice, beans for AGR:

  • 15 bags of millet 575 €

  • 15 bags of rice 250 €

  • 10 bags of beans 300 €

Total 1,125 €

Total project cost 4,000 €

Training Center of the Catholic Mission of Touroua

As part of our project to improve the living conditions and well-being of the young girls and women at the Training Center of the Catholic Mission of Touroua, we have purchased beds and mattresses to equip the two dormitories.

In keeping with our African cultural heritage, which places gratitude at the heart of our values, we wish to express our sincere thanks to our DHS Congregation, to all the donors, and to all those who dedicate themselves to helping others.

Thanks to your support, the project we submitted last year has been approved and carried out this year. The amount of 3,500 € we received allowed us to purchase 28 beds and 28 mattresses. Initially, we had planned to buy 30 beds and 30 mattresses, but the lack of space in the dormitories forced us to adjust our plans.

On behalf of all the beneficiaries and myself, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. May God bless you abundantly!

These young girls, coming from the surrounding villages to pursue their training, used to sleep on the floor. Today, they are happy to be able to sleep comfortably on beds and mattresses. Your fraternal and supportive gesture, a testimony of unlimited love, has greatly improved their living conditions and well-being.

We once again express our gratitude to all those who contributed to the realization of this essential project.
