Mass of the Holy Spirit

On Monday, October 5, 2026, to mark the beginning of a new academic session, the votive mass of the Holy Spirit was celebrated at the major seminary of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, in Bodija, Nigeria. It was a great privilege for the Daughters of the Holy Spirit from the Mère St. George community in Ibadan to participate.

The main celebrant was the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ibadan, Mgr. Gabriel Abegunrin, mass concelebrated with other formators from the seminary and neighboring institutes.
To guide students in the new academic year, this special celebration was organized to implore guidance and inspiration from the Holy Spirit on them. The archbishop emphasized the importance of listening. This being the World Teachers’ Day, he thanked God for the gift of formators and all teachers who greatly cooperate in the formation of future priests and religious. He urged the seminarians to take seriously their formation and studies. He also encouraged them, as future ministers, to pay greater attention to their formators and tutors.

Two Daughters of the Holy Spirit, Sr. Justina Akubo and Sr. Lucy Ohanuma, who are members of the seminary staff, attended this celebration which has become very important for us as an opportunity to renew our desire to serve in the seminary and in other works of evangelization. It also has a special meaning for us dhs who invoke the Holy Spirit every day at the beginning of our day.

We are very grateful for the privilege of this mission to the seminary.
