‘Here I am, in response to the Spirit who has led me here.’
On Saturday, 27 September 2025, the Daughters of the Holy Spirit of the Vice-Province of Burkina Faso had the immense joy of celebrating the perpetual vows of Sister MEDA Nitogra Ida.
The Eucharistic celebration took place at the Cathedral Parish of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Diébougou, presided over by Monsignor Der Raphaël DABIRE KUSIELE, Bishop of Diébougou. Long before this day, the sisters of the Vice-Province supported and accompanied Sister Ida with their prayers and various commitments in her total dedication to God, following in the footsteps of our foundresses Marie BALAVENNE and Renée BUREL. Each of us was truly committed with joy in one way or another to the various activities, which made this day even more beautiful! It was a great joy for us to see our religious family and especially our Vice-Province grow.
Sister Ida was surrounded by her sisters in the Vice-Province, numerous priests, consecrated persons, members of her family, friends and acquaintances who came to witness her total dedication to God and to pray with and for her. All expressed their joy through dancing and singing, praising God for his wonders in Sister Ida’s life. In his homily, Father Jean Raphaël helped us understand that Sister Ida’s final commitment to our religious family is a great joy not only for the Daughters of the Holy Spirit but also for the whole Church. In her experience as a DHS, Ida was sustained by the words of Psalm 22: ‘The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.’ “
After Mass, everyone was invited to the Bagane community to share a festive meal. It was a moment of joy and fraternity among us and with everyone.
The evening prayer gave us the opportunity to hear Sister Ida’s experience, drawn from our charism: ‘A heart empty of everything to be wholly God’s.’ It was a source of pride to listen to Ida, her joy at being an DHS, sharing our spiritual heritage, her struggles, and what her training had given her.
We give thanks to God for his blessings on his Church and especially on our congregation. May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire in the hearts of young girls the desire to follow Christ, following the example of our first sisters!
