Make Everyday Earth Day

Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970 on April 22nd. Each year there is a wide variety of events marking the day. There are prayers, speakers, music, cleanups, declarations from community and government leaders.
The Daughters of the Holy Spirit also commemorated the 53rd anniversary of Earth Day in a variety of ways.

In the US, the Province hosted the Earth Day celebration sponsored by the Greater Putnam Interfaith Council to which they belong. The evening consisted of speakers and music as well as prayers from different faith traditions including Catholic, Episcopalian, Methodist, Baptist, Jewish and Baháʼí.  In Nigeria, the Sisters are planting trees as they begin to mark the 60th anniversary of the DHS there. They are involving others, especially school children, in this endeavor.  In Cameroon, the focus was on picking up plastic waste and in sharing grains they had grown with their neighbors. Prayer was the center of the celebration in Peru and at the international government meetings being held in France.

All of this helps to reinforce our appreciation of the beauty of our one and only planet and to remind us that every day should be Earth Day.
