Sacrament of confirmation: faith committed…

The intensive exposure of candidates to Catechesis in Marie Balavenne Catholic College, Ilogbo Nigeria, has become an avenue that has opened the minds of the young ones to willingly and happily embrace and value the sacraments of the church every year. For Marie Balavenne College, Faith comes first and the profession of same is paramount. This informs the necessity of the sacrament of confirmation. The administration of the sacrament of confirmation this year was held on the 2nd of July, 2022 with 23 candidates confirmed.

According to the teaching of the Catholic Church, through the sacrament of confirmation, we receive the Holy spirit in order to make us strong and perfect Christians as well as soldiers of Jesus Christ. On this great day, the sacrament of Confirmation was administered by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Odetoyinbo (The Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese)

The bishop in his homily explained that the journey of holiness is long and one’s motion to be used by God is never for selfish interests. He encouraged the candidate to remain prayerful and committed to their duties as God’s children. He called the attention of parents of the candidates whose children were the students of Marie Balavenne Catholic College to always care for the spiritual needs of their children and help them hold unto the faith of the church.
The confirmation was accompanied by solemn songs of dedication and surrender to service and stewardship.

The candidates who had gone through instructions and preparations as led by Mr. John Aderibigbe (the school catechesis teacher) were called out to profess their readiness to the service of God and humanity in humility and holiness. The Principal of the school, Rev. Sr. Rosemary ETIM DHS who had also journeyed with them was present to support them in prayer. The school Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Augustine Akpo MSP together with the Rev. Fr Alphonsus MSP appreciated everyone present especially the students for making themselves available for God” service.

It was a beautiful celebration as everyone rejoiced with the newly confirmed.
