The Vocation Camp “Savio 2026”, organized by the Don Bosco Youth Center in Ogungbade, Ibadan, NIGERIA, was held from 15 to 17 May 2026 and brought together young people from different backgrounds, united by a common desire: to discover their vocation, to discern God’s purpose in their lives.
The young campers arrived on 15 May, warmly welcomed. The registration was followed by a presentation of the structure and components of the session. The atmosphere was one of excitement and anticipation… This day ended with prayers and the evening meal before they retired for the night.
The next day a gyration exercise energized the campers and gave a positive tone to the day. After breakfast, the participants gathered for prayer before entering into today’s reflection.
The camp was animated by a wide range of facilitators: a married couple, a priest and two nuns, including myself. Together, we addressed this subject: “Serving Christ with Mary and Don Bosco”. The session focused on helping young people to understand vocation, not only as a future decision, but as a present call to live a meaningful and determined life. We guided the participants in reflecting on their personal journey, encouraging everyone to listen attentively to God’s voice and discover their unique way of life.
Then the participants went in small groups for discussion, to share their comments and ideas. This process helped them to deepen their understanding of a call and learn from each other.
One of the highlights of the day was the forum, where young people had the opportunity to freely express their thoughts, ask questions and share concerns. This interactive exercise created a space for open and deeper dialogue.
The evening took place in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. The campers showed their diverse talents through dance, theatre and other creative expressions. It was a moment of joy and community rapprochement ending with prayers.
On the last day, campers gathered for morning prayer and an evaluation of their experiences throughout the camp. Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and reflect on their lives. The celebration of the Holy Mass was like a suitable spiritual highlight to close this time. A group photo was taken to remember the beautiful memories of sharing. Then came the departure with renewed hearts, a deeper understanding and a stronger sense of purpose.
The Vocations Camp “Savio 2026” was a time of meeting, reflection that gave young people the opportunity to take a break from listening and understanding God’s call in their lives.
As they returned to their different homes and communities, our hope and prayer was that the seeds sown in those days would continue to germinate and grow, guiding them toward lives of service and fulfillment.
