Support for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at the Camp in Kishi, Oyo State.

In 2009 when the Boko-Haram’s insurgency began gaining traction in Nigeria, many Nigerians have experienced violence, massacre, and displacements. IDPs camps were established particularly in the north-central and northwestern part of Nigeria. However, there is an IDPs camp in Kishi, Sooro village in Oyo State in the southwestern part of Nigeria. The camp has administrative buildings, around 280 IDPs as of 2019 relocated there from Benue and Nasarawa states.

According to reports in 2019, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) gave relief materials (food, kitchen items, mattresses etc.) to the camp. However, some reports say the materials “were nowhere to be found”, later, hinting at the problems with distribution, long-term support and lack of strong follow-up. Other information highlights the poor access to family planning services as many children are being born in the camp.

The Sisters of the Vice-Province of Nigeria visit the camp regularly, taking along food stuff and other materials. The Catholic Diocese of Oyo also ensures that children receive education at the camp. However, the heightened activities of the Boko-Haram, bandits and Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria have increased the number of IDPs in Kishi camp. We would like to provide the IDPs at the Kishi camp with food items and other materials.

Objectives:

  • To bring food, clothing and other materials to the IDP’s in Kishi camp.

  • To be in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who suffer this violence through our visitation and counselling.

Needs expressed:

  • 15 bags of rice 625 €

  • 10 bags of beans 500 €

  • 12 bags of garri 420 €

  • 7 whiteboards 8 by 4 125 €

  • 10 liquid soap of 25 Liters 60 €

  • Warm clothes 180 €

  • Transportation 270 €

Total project cost 2,180 €
