Because we are all linked to each other in the mission, the visit to Touroua – a town in the North Region of Cameroon – of Sister Angèle SILIKAM HARANGA, the person most responsible for the vitality of our charism in this country, gave us the opportunity, from 24 to 27 May, to show her all our places of solidarity and daily fraternities.
Just a stone’s throw from our community, we accompanied Angèle to the Centre de Formation Professionnelle des Jeunes et des Femmes (CFPJF). This Centre was created in 2002 by Sister Yvonne CASENAVE (of late memory), whose main objective was to help girls who did not attend school to become financially independent in their lives and in society. At present, the CFPJF has 30 young people – 29 girls and 1 boy – most of the girls live in the ‘saré’ – a few rooms built with the help of the local population for those who live far away or are poorer. The group is taught by 6 formators and myself, Sister Christine, who has been in charge of the Centre since last year.
Sister Angèle then visited the Catholic College where Sister Elisabeth teaches and the Catholic Private Health Centre run by Sister Alice. She also visited several families, strengthening our links with the local population.
At the end of the visit, Sister Angèle was deeply touched by the warm welcome and solidarity of everyone. She expressed her gratitude for the fraternal welcome and encouraged us to be women who are available for children, the sick and young people, to be a house of charity where everyone feels at ease.
The challenges of the mission remain ever-present, and we will never finish answering questions such as: how can we continue to help these young people and needy families in this fragile political, social and economic context? May the Lord continue to bless all those who support us in our humble mission.
